If you want to, or have to run your computer as a standard user, the following should allow you to run.
Note: These instructions were written from Vista Ultimate 32-bit. Other versions might have slightly different steps
1. Change NTFS security on Voyage Century Online folder
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to 'c:\program files'
- Right-Click the 'Voyage Century Online' folder
- Choose 'Properties'
- Click the 'Security' tab
- Click 'Advanced'
- Click 'Edit'
- Look for "Users" in the list
If it is there, click it, then click 'Edit'
If it is not there, click 'Add', type "Users", then click 'OK'
Note: You may get prompted for an administrator password on this step.
- Check the box next to 'Full Control' under the 'Allow' column
- Click 'OK'
- Check the box next to 'Replace all existing inheritable permissions on...'
- Click 'OK' and wait for a few minutes while it resets file permissions
2. Remove UAC's personal copy of VCO
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to 'c:\users\\appdata\local\VirtualStore\Program Files
- Look for a 'Voyage Century Online' folder
If it is there, rename it to something else (Example: Voyage Century Online-old)
3. Remove 'RUNASADMIN' flag
WARNING - This step requires that you edit your registry. If you are not comfortable with this, do not follow these instructions. Regardless, whenever you edit your registry, make a backup first.
- Run 'regedit'
- Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
- Look in the right pane for "C:\Program Files\Voyage Century Online\voyagecentury.exe"
If it is there, rename it to something else (Example: C:\Program Files\Voyage Century Online\voyagecentury-old.exe)
- Close Registry Editor
4. Verify your shortcut doesn't force Administrative mode
- Right-click the icon you use to start voyage century
- Choose 'Properties'
- On the 'Shortcut' tab, click 'Advanced'
- Make sure 'Run as Administrator' is UNchecked
5. All Done!
After performing these steps, you *might* have to redownload the latest patch. Pay attention to the version number when VCO starts (upper left corner of the first screen). If it is not the latest version (.58 as of this writing), download the patch again and you should be good to go.
